A visit to this remote country church is a memorable experience of faith in God, religious history, and local heritage. Everyone is welcome to gather to celebrate the Eucharist “in a place where saintly feet have walked among us”. The original log church of Saints Phillip and James was blessed by St. John Neumann on July 27, 1854. St. John Neumann celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation in 1854, 1856, and 1858. The church building now standing was built in 1883. On September 4, 1977 Bishop John C. McCormick designated Saints Phillip and James Church as the official Shrine of the Diocese of Scranton to St. John Neumann. Mass is celebrated three times during the year at the Shrine.
