Fluoride Available For Pick-up During October

The fluoride program at Sullivan County School District begins in October. Parents who completed the necessary paperwork can pick up their child’s fluoride free of charge at the pharmacy they selected beginning October 1. All fluoride must be picked up during the month of October. Please make arrangements to pick up the fluoride during this time to take advantage of the program. Both the Dushore Pharmacy and the Sullivan County Medical Center Pharmacy are participating. If you have any questions regarding the fluoride program please call Mrs. Richmond at (570) 946-6019.

District IV Horse Show Held At Alparon Park in Troy

Two members of the Trail Trotters 4-H Horse and Pony Club took part in District IV Horse Show competition at Alparon Park in Troy on Saturday, September 8. Fallyn Russell showing her Arabian gelding, BJ, competed in Western Grooming & Showmanship, Jr. Division and Western Pleasure Ponies, placing 4th. Hannah Corson showing her Quarter Horse mare, Moons Melody, competed in Western Grooming & Showmanship, Jr. Division and Western Novice Walk-Jog Pleasure and Equitation. The State 4-H Horse Show will be held in Harrisburg in October.

Growing Up WILD! To Be Held At Worlds End State Park

Children ages 3–5 and their parents are invited to participate in an early childhood nature program at the Worlds End State Park Visitor Center. Using wildlife-based activities, the program is designed to build on a young child’s sense of wonder and invites them to explore wildlife and the world around them.Growing Up WILD! provides an early foundation for developing positive impressions about the natural world and lifelong social and academic skills. Crafts, art projects, music, conservation activities, and more are part of the curriculum. Growing up WILD! will be held on Friday mornings from 10:30–11:30 a.m., beginning October 5. Penn State’s Great Insect Fair

Penn State’s Great Insect Fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 29 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus. Features include a butterfly tent, insect galls, insect olympics, cockroach races, insect zoo and deli, and much more. SCHS Shooter Competes at National Championships

Sullivan County High School Junior and Shooting Sports Team member Aurora Keen spent two weeks in Colorado Springs, Colorado this June and July competing in USA Shooting national competitions at Fort Carson. In June, Aurora competed against the nation’s top women in International (Olympic) Skeet at the 2012 USA National Championship. This was her first appearance at the USA National Championship. Aurora shot well scoring a 198/250, tying for 7th place overall and securing the Silver medal for her shooting classifi cation in the junior division. The competition was very close as Aurora missed the fi nals by two targets. In early July, Aurora returned to Colorado Springs to compete in the 2012 Junior Olympic National Championship. She scored her personal best of 104/125 targets against outstanding junior lady competitors. The competition came down to the last round with very close scores. There were ties for 2nd and 3rd positions and a three-way tie for 4th, 5th, and 6th positions overall going into the finals. Unfortunately, Aurora missed the fi nals by three targets and was one target from the Bronze medal in her division. Aurora had an outstanding performance at both the 2012 USA National Championship and the 2012 Junior Olympic National Championship.
