There’s defi nitely a chill in the air but there have been some mighty nice days as well...good enough to sit down at the beach; a few people even took a dip! Bible Study will be held tomorrow morning at 9:30 at “Hemlock House,” the home of Jan Yordy on Dunham Avenue. The Eagles Mere Book Club meets tomorrow afternoon at “Portside,” the home of Gail Meyer on Mineral Springs Avenue, at 3 o’clock. The book under discussion is “The Seamstress of Hollywood Boulevard” by Erin McGraw. The monthly meeting of the Eagles Mere Borough Authority will be held on tomorrow evening at the Borough Hall on Laporte Avenue, starting at 7 o’clock. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. The 157th Bloomsburg Fair gets underway on Saturday (through Sept. 29). There is much to see in the way of entertainment, partake of when it comes to food, rides, three exhibit halls, livestock displays, horse racing, demolition derby, tractor and truck pulls. Sarah Way, daughter of Betsi and Jim Way, was married to John Schmidt on the afternoon of Sept. 15, at a 4:30 ceremony offi ciated by Cornelia Schmidt, John’s grandmother, and Jeff Ferra, a friend of the couple. The self-uniting ceremony was held on the old Forest Inn grounds in Eagles Mere Park; a reception followed the theme using Forest Inn memorabilia. Sarah is a Communications Specialist in the Marketing Offi ce at Friends Select School, a pre-K through 12 Independent Quaker School in Center City Philadelphia. John works in commercial real estate as a Property Manager in New Jersey. The couple will make their home in Westmont, NJ. Hannah Stauffer, daughter of Julie Stauffer, has recently become engaged to Tap Kolkin of Baltimore, MD. They met while teaching at Gilman Prep where Hannah continues to teach Mathematics in the Middle School. Tap is in his last year of law school at the University of Maryland. An August 2013 wedding is planned. The Town Clock is being painted by Beverly Beatty of Mural, Mural on the Wall out of Sewickley, PA. She is the daughterin- law of Jean Beatty of Laporte. Dino Pinto, Marc Lewis, and Rick Liebert completed all 102 miles of the Tour de Shunk together this past Sunday. This was Dino’s fi rst century ride since suffering a bad concussion this past May while training for the Montour 75, a local bike race. This was Marc’s very fi rst century ride which he completed riding his very unusual wooden bicycle made from local Pennsylvania hardwoods. The ride started and concluded at Rocky’s Bike Shop located in Monroeton where vast quantities of pasta and a massage was waiting for the riders as they returned. All proceeds from the ride benefi t the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Rick sends kudos to Greg White for organizing this ride every year for over a dozen years.Mah-Jongg maven for Sept. 10, was Mary Ann Faeth with 450 points.
