The Department of Natural Resources recently approved a special events permit allowing a first–ever guided ATV/UTV ride through the beautiful Loyalsock State Forest near Hillsgrove, PA. The Highland Lake Snowmobile and Outdoor Recreation Club (HLSORC) is hosting the event. John Cropper, HLSORC President stated, “The club worked closely with Richard A. Glinski, District Forester from the Loyalsock State Forest. This is the first event of its kind and it will be a unique privilege to ride approximately 40 miles of State Forest roads.”
The event is planned for Sunday, October 14, on Route 87 in Hillsgrove, with registration beginning at 9:00 a.m. The costs are $15.00 per operator ages 16 and over, $5.00 per operator ages 8 through 15, and $5.00 per passenger, with all proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project.
If anyone knows of a Wounded Warrior that would be interested in participating in this event please contact John Cropper at (570) 435-0199.
The club will have passenger seats in utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) or side-by-sides avail-able. The ride will begin on Mill Creek Road in Hillsgrove on a designated trail for approximately 40 miles. Participants will travel in groups. Each group will be guided by an HLSORC member. Once the group is underway, riders will be required to stay with the assigned group for the entire ride.
The event is open to the public. We hope the public will join our club and participate in this event for a very worthy cause.
HLSORC established by a group of outdoor enthusiasts in 2005, boasts over 100 members from Lycoming, Sullivan and surrounding counties. Members meet monthly on the last Thursday at The Country Tavern near Pennsdale, PA. This club is also responsible for The King of the Mountain Snowmobile Hill Climb event hosted annually in March at Ski Sawmill Family Resort near Morris, PA.
