Greetings from Laporte. What wonderful Fall weather we are enjoying. The 56th Bowhunters Festival had a great turnout. Donna Poust and I worked with many other volunteers in the food building. I made hot dogs, and Donna was on the sausage detail in our four hour time slot on Saturday. Neither one of us had much down time. The other volunteers were just as busy. The Bowhunters donate money to the different organizations the members represent. Sherwood Schoch informed Donna and me that for the fi rst time there was a bulletin board with photos and articles from the Bowhunters Festivals throughout the years. The beginning Bowhunters had a wild boar hunt and the fi rst boar tusks were on display, donated by the winner Kenny Poust. What a history! The changes over the years have made this a family oriented event. Betty Underwood is walking on Saturday, Sept. 22nd, taking a step to fi nd a cure in the Philadelphia Lymphomathon. The Lymphomathon is a 5K Walk where survivors, family, friends, community and corporate teams walk in honor and in memory of those whose lives have been touched by lymphoma. If you would like to support her team simply register online by clicking “Register Here” on the Philadelphia Lymphomathon page, select “Join a Team” then choose her team, TEAM “Betty’s Backers” from the drop down box. It’s that easy! There will be a spaghetti dinner at the Laporte Vol. Fire Company on Saturday, Sept. 22nd from 4 until 7 p.m. featuring Chef Mike Peterman’s secret spaghetti sauce. This is another great day to plan to eat out! The Fire Company has planned a trip to Las Vegas in 2013 from March 10-14 and anyone who whould like to join them is welcome. Round trip air transportation including taxes, includes a four night stay with all hotel taxes and service fees included for $786 per person double occupancy. If anyone wants more information contact either Mike or Debbie Peterman at 946-4136. In last week’s issue of The Sully, an ad appeared on page 3... “Keep your eyes on this spot.” It appears that Pioneer Campground and the Eagles Mere/Laporte Lions Club has an event coming up so be alert to this week’s clue which could appear on a different page. “Something spooooky is coming to Sullivan County.” Duplicate bridge is played at the Lake Mokoma Cottage on Thursday nights at 7 p.m. Bridge results for Sept. 13 are: 1st - Gretchen and Mike Snyder, 2nd - Ingrid and Leo Wollemborg and 3rd - Jean Malkmus and Judy Stein. Happy birthday wishes to Ashley McFaul and Lauren Shultz Edkin, Shirley Auden and Will Barrington on the 28th, and Stacy Cooper Ferrari on the 29th.
